Overview

About Mangrove Biodiversity Park

The Mangrove Biodiversity Park, located along Korangi Creek in Karachi, Sindh, is Pakistan's first floating park dedicated to mangrove conservation and coastal ecosystem awareness. Developed as a joint initiative between the Sindh Forest Department and private partners including TPL Properties, the eco-park spans over 50 hectares of vital coastal wetlands. The park's primary mission is to safeguard Karachi's native mangrove forests, promote shoreline climate resilience, and offer an educational retreat where visitors can closely explore coastal biodiversity.

The park is highly recognized for its sustainable bamboo architecture and eco-friendly infrastructure constructed using upcycled materials. A centerpiece of the facility is its 1,200-foot floating wooden boardwalk built over recycled drums, which naturally shifts with the tidal levels to provide safe passage deep into the heart of the mangrove jungle. Additional features include a floating education center, a distinctive bird-watching tower inspired by weaver bird nests, and guided Mudskipper skiff boat rides along the creek channels. The sanctuary serves as a thriving habitat for mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and over 72 migratory and native bird species. To protect the fragile environment, visits must be booked in advance online, and entry is restricted to visitors aged 10 and above.

The story

The story of Mangrove Biodiversity Park

Eco-Friendly Floating Architecture

The park stands out for its sustainable bamboo architecture and eco-friendly infrastructure constructed out of upcycled marine materials to guarantee a minimal carbon footprint. A highlight of the sanctuary is its 1,200-foot floating wooden boardwalk built over recycled drums, which safely shifts alongside changing tidal levels to grant visitors deep, non-intrusive passage into the dense mangrove canopy. The facility also features an off-grid floating education center, a distinctive bird-watching tower structurally modeled after weaver bird nests, and solar-powered auxiliary systems.

Avian Sanctuary and Practical Visitor Rules

Serving as a thriving coastal refuge, the wetlands shelter a rich variety of native marine life, including mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and juvenile fish, alongside more than 72 species of native and migratory birds. Visitors can take guided Mudskipper skiff boat rides through the narrow creek channels for close-up ecological observations. To safeguard the highly sensitive environment from heavy foot traffic, entry is strictly regulated; all visits must be booked online in advance, and access is restricted to visitors aged 10 and above.
