The story

The story of Lake Dudipatsar

Trekking Guide and Route Overview

The journey to Dudipatsar Lake typically begins from Naran, heading towards the gateway at Besal. From Besal, hikers embark on a challenging but exceptionally rewarding trek that spans roughly 15 kilometers through the Poorbi Narr valley. The trek follows a rushing river trail, climbing progressively over meadows and stone-filled pathways. Mules and local guides are usually available at Besal to support trekkers with heavy luggage and camp setup.

Best Time to Visit and Weather Conditions

The lake is accessible only during a short summer window, typically from late June to early September. For the rest of the year, heavy snow blocks the passes, and the lake remains completely frozen. Even in peak summer, the weather can change drastically from warm and sunny afternoons to freezing cold nights, making appropriate layered clothing and high-quality tents essential for safety.

Accommodation, Logistics, and Camping Advice

There are no permanent hotels or buildings at Dudipatsar Lake. Visitors must rely entirely on wilderness camping. It is highly recommended to set up camp at traditional stopping points like Mulla ki Basti before continuing the final stretch to the lake. Trekkers must carry all essential gear, including water-purification kits, high-protein food rations, sleeping bags rated for freezing temperatures, and first-aid medication.
